About This Calculator

The BMI Calculator calculates your Body Mass Index (BMI), a measure of body fat based on height and weight. BMI is used to categorize weight status and assess health risks associated with weight.

How It Works

  • 1

Select your preferred unit system (metric or imperial).

  • 2

Enter your weight in kilograms (metric) or pounds (imperial).

  • 3

Enter your height in centimeters (metric) or inches (imperial).

  • 4

Click Calculate to get your BMI and weight category.

Formula Explanation

BMI (Metric) = Weight (kg) / (Height (m))²

For metric units, divide weight in kilograms by height in meters squared.

BMI (Imperial) = (Weight (lbs) / (Height (in))²) × 703

For imperial units, divide weight in pounds by height in inches squared, then multiply by 703.

Tips

  • BMI is a screening tool, not a diagnostic measure of body fat or health.

  • BMI categories: Underweight (<18.5), Normal (18.5-24.9), Overweight (25-29.9), Obese (≥30).

  • BMI may not be accurate for athletes with high muscle mass.

  • Consult a healthcare provider for a comprehensive health assessment.
