Formula Explanation
BMI (Metric) = Weight (kg) / (Height (m))²For metric units, divide weight in kilograms by height in meters squared.
BMI (Imperial) = (Weight (lbs) / (Height (in))²) × 703For imperial units, divide weight in pounds by height in inches squared, then multiply by 703.
Tips
BMI is a screening tool, not a diagnostic measure of body fat or health.
BMI categories: Underweight (<18.5), Normal (18.5-24.9), Overweight (25-29.9), Obese (≥30).
BMI may not be accurate for athletes with high muscle mass.
