About This Calculator

The Calorie Calculator estimates your daily calorie needs using the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation to calculate BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) and adjusts for activity level. This helps you understand how many calories you need to maintain your current weight.

How It Works

  • 1

    Enter your age in years.

  • 2

Select your gender (male or female).

  • 3

    Input your weight in kilograms.

  • 4

    Enter your height in centimeters.

  • 5

Select your activity level based on your exercise routine.

  • 6

The calculator computes your BMR and daily calorie needs.

Formula Explanation

BMR (Male) = 10 × Weight(kg) + 6.25 × Height(cm) - 5 × Age + 5

The Mifflin-St Jeor Equation for men calculates Basal Metabolic Rate, the calories burned at rest.

BMR (Female) = 10 × Weight(kg) + 6.25 × Height(cm) - 5 × Age - 161

The Mifflin-St Jeor Equation for women accounts for typically lower metabolic rates.

Daily Calorie Needs = BMR × Activity Multiplier

Multiply BMR by an activity multiplier (1.2 for sedentary to 1.9 for very active) to estimate total daily calorie needs.

Tips

  • BMR represents calories burned at complete rest - your body's minimum energy needs.

  • Activity multipliers: Sedentary (1.2), Light (1.375), Moderate (1.55), Active (1.725), Very Active (1.9).

  • To lose weight, consume fewer calories than your daily needs.

  • To gain weight, consume more calories than your daily needs.

  • These are estimates - individual metabolism varies.
